It has to be said. This was rather a good line, was it not?
"I don't want to just end the war, but I want to end the mindset that got us into war in the first
place.”
-Barack Obama discussing the Iraq war, Democratic presidential debate sponsored by CNN, The Los Angles Times and Politico, Thursday, January 31, 2008
Some colleagues and notable bloggers have expanded on this commentary. Here are some choice posts: Matthew Duss on the American Prospect blog, MJ Rosenberg on the TPM Café, Matt Yglesias on the Atlantic.com blog and Spencer Ackerman on Too Hot for TNR Online.

If Sen. Obama indeed wishes to change the mindset that provoked the Iraq War (and has dominated establishment foreign policy/national security thinking in both parties), he would do well to read Prof. Andrew Bacevich's "The New American Militarism, How Americans are seduced by war" from 2005. It is a provocative analysis (from the Right) of the dominant establishment thinking.
